My name is Hudson Galik, and I am the founder of Woodism.
I am a 19-year-old autistic student of fine woodworking. I started Woodism to combine two of my passions—creative woodworking and making others happy. I began by making simple wooden toys for children—helicopters, boats, animals, and more. Today, I create everything from custom picture frames to personalized letters and signs to small pieces of furniture.

BORN TO BUILD

I like to think that I was born with a love of woodworking in my blood and soul. See, even though I never met him, my great-grandfather, Ferdinand J. Galik, was a carpenter and woodworker. So, it’s no wonder that I discovered my lifelong passion for creating and building at an early age when I began playing with LEGO bricks at four years old!

In 2017, at the age of 12, I began creating small projects from scrap wood around the house. I started to get pretty good at it, but it wasn’t until I was 15 that I really got serious. That was 2020—the year when COVID arrived and so many of us were stuck at home. I used this as an opportunity to really study woodworking techniques and sharpen my skills. That was also the year I founded Woodism.

As things returned to normal, I had the opportunity to train with Boyd Hutchinson in his Sheffield, Massachusetts home studio. Boyd is an expert in traditional Shaker furniture and, together, we made my first major piece of furniture—a Shaker-style table! Working with Boyd helped me improve my skills on the table saw, band saw, drill press, and belt sander. However, maybe the most important thing I learned from Boyd is that you’re never too old to keep getting better at your craft.

Today, I CONTINUE TO study and pursue my certificate in fine woodworking and cabinet making.

I am constantly looking for new ways to get more experience and IMPROVE my techniques.

The more I learn, the better Woodism becomes!
